1. How do I Search for jobs and artist opportunities on this site?
ArtsOpportunities offers you various ways to search for employment, internships, and artist opportunities. From the homepage you can choose to search by: Quick Search, Advanced Search, Employment Opportunities, Internship Opportunities, Artist Opportunities, and View all Opportunities by State.
Below are descriptions of each type of search:
Quick Search: From the homepage, you can access the Quick Search, although not all fields are required, the more search criteria you set the narrower the results will be.
Job Description field: enter keywords that describe the type of job/opportunity you are looking for. If your search results are too broad, try entering more than one keyword. Use double quote marks to search for a specific string of words such as "Arts Instruction".
Type of Opportunity: check one or more employment, internship or artist checkboxes. Selecting the type of opportunity allows you to narrow your search.
Location field: allows you to limit your search to a specific geographic area. For instance, if you're looking for jobs in and around Atlanta, simply select "Georgia - Atlanta" from the "Location" pull-down menu. If you wish to search for opportunities nationwide, choose "Select All" from the "Location" pull-down menu.
Area of Focus (e.g. performing arts, visual arts…). To search on all areas, use the default setting "Search All".
Click the "Search" button to perform your search.
Advanced Search: You can search by: additional keyword descriptions; location; opportunity type and specific categories; area of focus; or date of posting, although not all fields are required, the more search criteria you specify the narrower your search results will be.
Search Only for Employment Opportunities: When looking only for employment opportunities this type search allows you to choose specific employment categories (e.g. development, administrative, financial service…) and area of focus (e.g. crafts, visual arts, literature, performing arts…). You may continue to customize your search by type of employment (e.g. full-time, part-time…); location; or additional keyword descriptions. All search results are employment opportunities only, and will not included internships or artist opportunities.
Search Only for Internship Opportunities: This search allows you to look up organizations that offer internships. You may choose to search by type of internship; degree level sought; position start date; location; area of focus; or additional keyword descriptions.
Search Only by Artist Opportunities: Whether you are looking for auditions, call for papers, competitions, grants, fellowships or much more, you can look up opportunities specific to your artistic occupation. Do this by specifying your area of focus (e.g. visual arts, literary, performing arts-dance…), and then the type(s) of artist opportunities you are looking for. You can continue to customize your search by selecting the posting date, and additional keyword descriptions of the opportunities you are interested in. Quick Search has limited functionality that may allow for quicker access to general search results. 4. The job description field uses Keywords. What are Keywords?
Keywords are specific words or phrases that describe opportunities you would like to see. A search engine looks for these words in job postings and artist opportunities, and if it finds them, pulls up that posting for a user to review. The more keywords that are used--the more closely the opportunity will match. For example, if you type the word "Dance" into the "Job Description" field, you'll get more results back then if you typed the words "Modern Dance".

5. What is the best way to use Keywords?
You can use any mix of upper and lower case characters; as the keyword field isn't case sensitive. Additionally, you can enclose your keyword(s) in double quotes, and the search engine will locate exact keyword matches. If you choose not to enclose your keywords in double quotes the search engine will locate words related to your keyword(s) but not the exact keyword itself. See "What should I use for keywords?" for additional definition.

7. My Quick Search results didn't match my keywords. Why?
- The organization who posted the opportunity chose to display a shortened version of the job's description, or job title, and/or did not use the same keywords you are using to describe the opportunity.
- You didn't enclose your keyword(s) in double quotes, and the search results include variations on your keyword(s).
- The job description contains your keyword(s), but they are not in the same context. Try using keywords that are more specific.

Because organizations post their own opportunities, the organization decides when to take the posting down. In most cases the organization will list a "last day to apply". Note, some organizations do not accept online applications, and will provide an alternative application method, such as a fax or mailing address.
