Description:

The Executive Director’s primary responsibility will be to act as the chief administrative officer for the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP), reports to the Board President and Executive Committee, and will be accountable for the areas noted below. This position acts as the “face” of the MCP establishing / forging and cultivating strong partnerships among all internal and external stakeholders. This position is responsible for developing and nurturing a motivated Board of Directors to maximize effectiveness of the organization’s governance, mission, vision and goals for the MCP. Key characteristics for success include: Business Savvy and Entrepreneurial Spirit/Strong Community Network (e.g., business/relevant contacts)/Intuitiveness /Dynamic Leadership Experience/Strong Work Ethic/Self-motivated/Collaborative Abilities / Team Builder/Customer-focused/Goal -Outcome Oriented/Tenacity. Percentage of Time / Duty or Responsibility: 35% Development: Design, actualize and/or effectively outsource grant applications, the execution of individual donor campaigns, special events, annual appeal and follow-up, and a capital campaign 20% Financial Management: Prepare annual operating budgets manage financial operations in accordance with approved budget and governmental and tax regulations 15% Board Relationships /Governance: Assist in identifying and recruiting new board members guide organization on 5-year strategic plan development and implementation. 10% Community and External Relations: Develop and maintain relationships within the fundraising community represent the MCP at/with community functions, the media, government agencies, foundations, educational community and all potential supporters. 10% Operations: Assist in negotiating contracts manage volunteers/staff, and all matters concerning the successful production of three annual performances. 5% Communications Coordination: Develop a comprehensive PR and marketing plan for MCP and JMCP 5% Other projects as assigned by the MCP Board President

Qualifications:

The Executive Director reports to, and is a member of, the Board, and is responsible for the overall leadership of the MCP. In addition to being the public persona of the Choir working closely with individual donors, and the corporate and foundation community, the Executive Director is expected to take leadership in areas concerning Development/Fundraising, Board Development and Governance, and Financial Management. The successful candidate will have five years minimum experience as an intermediate or senior level professional, a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with training in arts management, development or business, and a passion for choral singing. The candidate will also have demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization and project management skills, and proven ability to meet multiple deadlines. A Master’s Degree in arts management or MBA, experience in financial or accounting analysis/budgeting, marketing and the use of QuickBooks are preferred for this position.
